WHY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND?
Precision without conventional surgical access Focused ultrasound is based on a simple principle: concentrate acoustic energy at a defined focal point to create a therapeutic effect within targeted tissue. Unlike conventional surgery, where instruments physically access and remove tissue, HIFU delivers therapeutic ultrasound through the body to the target. Why this matters? - NON-INVASIVE APPROACH - No surgical incision is required to access the target tissue. - TARGETED ENERGY - Ultrasound energy is concentrated at a defined focal region rather than being delivered broadly across the treatment area. - IMAGE-GUIDED - Imaging can be used to identify the target, plan treatment and monitor the treatment region. - LOCALISED TISSUE EFFECT - At the focal region, the concentrated ultrasound energy can produce a thermal effect capable of causing coagulative tissue ablation. - UTERUS-PRESERVING APPROACH - For appropriately selected fibroid patients, HIFU treats targeted fibroid tissue without surgically removing the uterus. This does not, however, mean that fertility or pregnancy outcomes are guaranteed. - NO SURGICAL REMOVAL OF THE TARGET - The objective is to treat the targeted tissue in situ. The treated tissue may subsequently undergo biological changes and shrink over time. Focused ultrasound concentrates acoustic energy at a defined focal region, creating a localised therapeutic tissue effect.
